Why did my Libby stop working?

I have not been able to access libby since April, what's going on?

Answer

We moved your data and our collection to our own platform on April 14th, 2022. This means you'll need to log into our new Libby library to get started.

First, make sure your card is with the Santa Barbara Public Library.

  • If you originally signed up for a card at the Carpinteria branch before April 2022, please reach out to us. It is likely you will need to sign up for a brand new card with Carpinteria Community Library or with SBPL.
  • If your card doesn't begin with 2144, it is likely a card for another Library jurisdiction. Please reach out to your home library to resolve the issue.

How to log into SBPL's new Libby Library:

  • Open Libby
  • Touch middle symbol for the main menu (three lines / hamburger menu)
  • Does it list Santa Barbara Public Library under Your Libraries?
    • Yes? Please reach out to us to help resolve this issue.
    • No? If it lists Black Gold, keep following these instructions:
  • Touch "Add library"
  • Search for Santa Barbara or our Zip Code (93101)
  • Choose Santa Barbara Public Library
  • Choose Sign in
  • Add your library card number
  • Add pin (last 4 digits of the phone number we have on file for you)
  • There's no need to rename the card unless that's your preference

You'll also want to remove your old Black Gold card from the Libby app to help avoid confusion in the future. You can do this by:

  • On the main menu, touch the button that says "2 cards" - you should see both your new SBPL card and the old Black Gold card
  • Choose the Black Gold card
  • Touch Actions on the Black Gold card
  • Choose Remove card
  • Confirm
  • Touch "Back" at the top
  • Choose Santa Barbara to make sure you're all set to go on your SBPL card
